Mobile giving is becoming really big.
What is it?
Nonprofit organizations can secure a mobile shortcode and keyword that will allow users to donate a pre determined amount of money (usually 5-10 bucks) just by texting in. There are a couple of ways to do it, but this is the most common.
Do People Do It?
The Red Cross has received over 20 million dollars worldwide JUST via mobile fundraising. Other organization both national and local are jumping on the bandwagon with great success.
Why Do It?
Two reasons – more cost effective & speedier response.
What is the Challenge?
Awareness! People won’t text in their donations if they don’t know about it. I think this is a great complement to traditional media campaigns. Traditional media provides the vehicle for advertising and mobile allows the immediate interaction. Social would (obviously) work well in this equation.
